I was told that there are 49 separate ethnic minority groups living there - all with their own language, customs and dress. Most of the local people are rice farmers, with a great line in dance and embroidery. These dancers are Miao people, and they have a friendly custom of offering any visitor to their village some of their extremely strong local brew. It is being opened up for tourism, and what is unusual for a place with so much untouched natural beauty is that the roads are pretty good.

touted as a horror movie in the vein of Nakata Hideo's J-horror classic
The Ring. Although it inevitably had to diminish the supernatural
elements due to China's strict censorship regulations, the latest
scarefest from Hong Kong director Yip Wai Ying (Troublesome Night
series) still manages to pile on the terror in an atmospheric tale of
mystery, madness, and ominous nightmares. Young surgeon Fang Lei (Zhou
Xianxin) has been tormented by her weird dreams for many years. One day,
she meets by chance her college best friend Angel (Gillian Chung), who
is already married to Lei's ex-boyfriend Zhou Feng (Wu Jianfei). When
grungy designer Wang Quan (Victor Huang) inadvertently enters Lei's
life, a series of inexplicable things begins to happen - Feng suddenly
disappears, and Lei finds herself being stalked by a creepy girl, while
people in her dreams turn up dead in reality...
The thread of life, connected by clothes, to traditions, to religion, to the thread that connect the ceiling to family's altar.... losing one's aspect of the Hmong culture is losing one's connection tothe Hmong ancestors and the root of one's identity.

The Hmong culture and history is very complex to fully understand. One must look into the different Miao groups in China to understand the position and developed culture of the Hmong people.

To the east, live the Gho Xiong.
To the center, livethe Hmu and Kanao.
To the west, live the A-Hmao and Hmong.

You cannot make assumptions, you cannot be ignorant, if you don't understand.

You are able to live in peace and love others, if you are able to know your root.
